Media Operations

Media Equipment Delivery and Retrieval

CMS staff assigns the highest priority to equipment requests for on-campus instructional use.  To guarantee deliveries, at least 48-hour notice is required.

Media Equipment Loan (over the counter)

Faculty and staff may borrow on a walk-in, first come, first served basis, portable media equipment from the CMS office in Miller 007 during normal business hours.  Students needing equipment for class use must make requests through their instructor only.  CMS will guarantee the availability of a particular piece of equipment with a 48-hour advance notice.

Specialized Multimedia and Computer Display

CMS will troubleshoot all computer hardware/software problems related to presentation display both in and out of the classroom environment.  CMS requires a one week notice to accommodate multimedia presentation applications for all setups.

Classroom Software Installations

All software installed in technology classroom computers must comply with SUNY Cortland's copyright policy on software.  Information Resources' supported software has been installed on all technology classroom and cart computers.  Any personal data files that you saved on any classroom computer may be removed at any time. Users are not allowed to install software (including most book CD's) on any classroom computer.  All requests for specialized software installations must comply with Information Resources Software Policies. Distance Learning

Distance Learning Classrooms and Video Conferencing

Classroom Media Services sends and receives classes to and from other campuses in its full multimedia distance learning classroom, located on the second floor of Sperry Center.  Through the use of distance learning technology, SUNY Cortland offers courses to on and off-campus students.  Full technical support is available to faculty who teach distance learning courses.  The distance learning classrooms are outfitted with a variety of multimedia equipment.  These facilities also can be scheduled for videoconferencing events such as administrative meetings, interviews, or professional development.

Playback of Video Recordings through the Campus Cable Network

CMS provides distribution of video materials including live off-air and satellite programming in rooms throughout campus.  All academic and administrative buildings are served by a 63 channel cable televsions system originating on the 3rd floor of the Sperry Building.   Most classroom spaces are configured to receive this signal. Requests for services should be made at least 48 hours prior to their use.

Off-Air, Satellite, Teleconference Recording, and Video Duplication

CMS records, duplicates and distributes programs for faculty classroom use in compliance with copyright guidelines. Requests for this service must be made at least 48 hours in advance.

Technical Services

Media Equipment Repair

Technical Services coordinates hardware repair and maintenance for all CMS equipment. Departments can call or e-mail Brad Snyder for assistance with broken departmentally owned media equipment.  If it is determined that the problem is more than minor we will recommend the most cost effective and reliable vendor to expedite the repair.

Campus Built-in Sound Systems

Technical services will respond to problems that may arise with sound systems located in Sperry Center, Moffett Gym, Park Center (ice arena, gym, and pool), Lusk Fieldhouse, and Davis Field.

Media Equipment Purchase and Consultation

Faculty may consult with CMS on the various types and models of equipment best suited to their needs.

Technical Design

CMS will assess your instructional media system needs and recommend the appropriate system to meet your requirements. Technical Services has expertise in the following system design categories: audio, video, multimedia classroom, cable television, satellite and distance learning.
