Phil Catania
Mr. Phil Catania recently retired as principal, for the past seventeen years, of Mount Rainier Elementary in Mount Rainier, Maryland. He had been an urban educator for thirty-two years. Mt. Rainier was a winner of a 2001 National Schools of Character award from the Character Education Partnership and a Model Peace School in a high poverty, high minority school system. Phil is currently the Director of Leadership for Schools and a member of the Faculty of the Smart & Good Schools Initiative, a project of the Center for the 4th and 5th Rs and the Institute for Excellence and Ethics, Inc. (IEE). He is also a national presenter on creating cultures of excellence and urban leadership.
