Each semester, a variety of workshops are offered to
help students develop the skills they need to pursue their career
goals. Workshops may focus on resume and cover letter guidelines,
interviewing, internships, and/or credential files. Very often, several
workshops on the same topic will be offered at different times throughout
the semester to serve the greatest number of students.
Quick Facts:
Resume:
Your resume is your ticket to an interview. A resume is a presentation
of achievements and skills which documents your strengths and abilities.
It should be organized to support your capabilities for the position
sought; it should be "skimable" and easy to read quickly. There is
no one correct way to write a resume, but it must be focused, career
related, well-designed, and proofread. Come to a workshop on resume
development and learn more about vital components. If you are not
able to attend a Career Services workshop, check out:
Cover Letter: A letter should always accompany
your resume. It should be addressed to an individual. It should
be concise, informative, and relevant to the job description. Your
letter should be prepared in business format, error free, elegantly
designed, on quality paper which complements your resume. Learn
more about cover letter construction at one of Career Services workshops.
The Interview: An interview is your opportunity
to win a job offer. It allows you to communicate your qualifications,
knowledge of the organization, match your skills to the employer's
needs, and display your communication skills. Interviews result
from excellent cover letters which direct the employer to your resume,
and a perfect resume which creates a strong interest in you as a
job candidate. Learn more about how to create a good impression
and communicate effectively at a workshop on Interviewing.
