Biography: 2006 Entry: Upon graduating from SUNY Cortland I took a
position as a chemist with the largest environmental compliance company in North
America. I'm currently involved in site assesments as well as working in
conjunction with goverment, state and private industries to remove thier
hazardous waste and chemicals according to RCRA and D.O.T. guidelines.
2008 Entry: After slaving 70 hours a week for a year and a half as an Environmental Chemist and traveling
all over the Northeastern U.S. I have taken a job with the Department of
Environmental Health and Saftey at Binghamton University. As the Environmental
Specialist I will bring my knowledge of Federal and State regulations regarding
hazardous waste to the SUNY system.

Biography: 2004 Entry: After graduation, I worked for LabCorp in Burlington,NC for 2 years working in the
identity testing lab doing bone marrow typings and paternity testing. After I moved to Dallas, Texas and
continued to do work in a genetics lab. In both positions, I found myself spending time with the computer programs, mainly because no one else enjoyed it, and eventually went back to
school to become a software engineer. Today I am in Charleston, South Carolina working for a company that builds the C-17 maintenance training simulators for
the Air Force. 2008 Entry: In June 2007 I left my job as a software engineer to become a Stay At Home Mom. I gave birth

Microbiologist for TJ Lipton and then RT French Company. My days at Bowers with
Dr. Batzing prepared me well for this. I received my MBA from RIT and entered
the business world. I have been working in Purchasing ever since, but married a
Microbiologist so science still plays a big role in our family. We have been
moving further west every few years and are now in beautiful Fort Collins,
Colorado.

Biography:
I got a job teaching 8th grade
science at Johnson City Middle school in the Binghamton area right after
finishing my masters at Cortland. Since then I have been teaching during the
school year and doing lots of traveling in the summer. California, Arizona,

york. i spend a large majority of my time growning organic veggies and
flowers. i continue to enjoy the outdoors. hiking, biking, snowshoeing,

2007 Entry: many things have changed for me since my
last posting. most significantly, my partner and i became moms of twins. a
boy (ryan) and a girl(erin). they are now 20 months old. i have the great
fortune to stay home with them. being out of the work force has been an
interesting transition. i enjoy taking care of my family and home, and feel very
fortune that we can have one of us home with erin and ryan. they have
already gone hiking and have learned the song of the black capped chickadee.

One of the founding fathers of mountain bike racing in South Korea. Numerous TV
commercials and promotional videos for tourism and mountain biking.
Environmental activist in South Korea. Appearances on TV talk shows, TV &
radio news, and subject of a 50-minute television documentary in 1994 (South
Korea). Second place in the Texas Mountain Bike Racing Association Spring Series
(North) 2000. Fourth place (!@#&^$ flat tire) in the South. Been through
hurricanes, typhoons, floods, tornados, hail, earthquakes, forest fires, snake
bite, surreal lightning storms, and more. Witnessed plasma lightning in Texas,

Biography: The summer after I left Cortland I took an invertebrate embryology course at the UW Friday
Harbor Labs. It was a great course, in a beautiful environment. The following fall I started
my graduate work in Sid Strickland's lab at SUNY-Stony Brook and completed my thesis "Analysis
of Tissue Plasminogen Activator in the Mouse Oocyte" in 1993. From there I went on to my
postdoc at the Oak Ridge Nat'l labs and worked in Rick Woychik's lab studying a mouse model of
polycystic kidney disease.
My training as a molecular geneticist landed me a job at a biotech company called Amgen in the
fall of 1996. Currently, I am in the neurosciences dept. running a program aimed at
identifying therapeutic targets for Huntington's Disease.
Emily (Rinehart) and I have been married 11 years and have two kids, Maegan 5.5 and Conor 4.
We enjoy the S. Ca life, but do sometimes miss the winter :) I've gotten into flyfishing and
mt biking.

fledged - almost. We breed quarter horses and watch our wheat grow. Still fish,
sail and birdwatch (thanks Gus!). My Cortland biology education was a superb

Sciences I traveled to Yellowstone National Park and pumped gas and changed oil
and tires at the Grant Village (south entrance) service station. After a year of
this work and a nice resume booster working with the park service clearing
backcountry trails, I recommitted to Cortland to work on my Masters in teaching.
I received my teaching certifications in 1996 and accepted a job teaching 7th
grade in Brockport, NY. After 6 years with 7th graders I was ready to try
sophomores. I accepted a job at Penfield High School as their science department
chair and "jack of all trades" science teacher. While at Penfield I earned my
CAS in Educational Administration and met my fiancé Allyson Wynne, also a
Cortland graduate. We are looking forward to getting married on December 1st and
are currently celebrating my acceptance of a new role; Dansville Middle School
Assistant Principal.

Biography: I've just completed all the requirements for my Doctorate in
Microbiology from Rutgers University. I will graduate May 2005.
Since I graduated from Cortland I have been working as a
microbiologist in the pharmaceutical industry (although I started out by making
bubble gum for 2.5 years). Many thanks to Dr. Batzing for laying down the
foundation for my microbiology career.
Life has been good. I'll always remember Cortland fondly.
