Biography: Prior to leaving Cortland
I sent out more than 200 resumes to Environmental Consulting Firms. I found a
job as an Industrial Hygienist, not quite in line with my fisheries biology
background, but it was a job. I stumbled into Industrial Hygiene (recognize,
evaluate and control employee exposures)and couldn't be happier. I have expanded
my career to include occupational safety and some environmental as well. I
currently work for a pharmaceutical company, where I am in charge of Health
& Safety for 900 employees.

My thesis involved the study of RNA interference (RNAi) of cell death regulatory genes in Caenorhabditis elegans. Currently I am a 3rd year graduate student at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, in Plant Breeding/Plant Genetic. My research involves the study of the genetic, epigenetic, transcriptional, and phenotypic changes that arise in newly formed Brassica napus allopolyploids. 2007 Entry: I am currently completing my my PhD dissertation at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, in Plant Breeding/Plant Genetics. I recently accepted a post-doctoral position in the Birchler Lab at the University of Missouri-Columbia, and my project will involve the study of recently developed maize artificial mini-chromosomes. |

Biography: I worked for NYPIRG canvassing on Pesticide use for a summer then spent a year both as a
Substitute Teacher and working at Old Navy before heading to the South Pacific and the Solomon
Islands as a Peace Corps Volunteer where I was a Secondary Science Science and Math teacher for
a year and a half. I am now readjusting and will either look into grad schools or employment.

Biography: After graduating I took a position in the science
department at Tamarac High School (as a biology teacher I know there should be a
"k" at the end but there isn't). It is a school outside Troy, New York and I
have been there ever since.
While I started out teaching biology and general science, I eventually got
certified in chemistry and have taught that and biology since the early 80's. I
have served as Class Adviser (a four year commitment each time) to six classes
throughout the years and have enjoyed my time at the school. Several former
students have gone on to become Cortland Alumni. I am classical muisc buff and
an avid concert goer and am a member of an area choral group. Both of these
activites were nutured while at Cortland. I still am in touch with the roommates
I had while at Cortland and have been back for several reunions.

Biography: After leaving Cortland, I entered into Graduate School at the University of Tennessee (Go Vols)
to study mycology. I received a M.S. in 1990 and a Ph.D. in 1994 from UT. Upon completion of
the Ph.D., I took a position at the University of Southern Indiana. Currently I am an
Associate Professor of Biology and Program Coordinator for the Presidential Scholar Program. I
thank the Biology Dept. at C-State for providing the strong foundation necessary to be
successful in achieving my goals.

Biography: 2005 Entry: Since Cortland, I have taught science at Tryon
Correctional Facility, Hoosic Valley (rural district), and now Saratoga...yes,
just down the street from the race track. Currently I am head of the science
department at the school (25 member department) so I guess I have slipped into
the abyss of administration...sorry about that! During the past 5 years, I have
managed to obtain my Masters and Certificate of Advanced Study in Administration
from SUNY Albany, and this fall I will be defending my dissertation proposal for
my PhD. I am now married to another science teacher (Kerri) and we have a little
science teacher on-the-way this July.
P.S. Adam Labuda '99 (science teacher) and I have owned a DJ company here in
Albany since graduation.
2008 Entry: I finished my Ph.D. at the University at
Albany in the field of Educational Administration and Policy Studies.
Thankfully a promotion soon followed, and now I am the Assistant Principal at
Saratoga Springs High School. The DJ business is still booming "literally," and
I am expecting the birth of my second child (another girl) on February 29th.yes
leap-day!!
