Biography: I have been teaching high school
biology since 1981, for the New York City Department of Education. I am also
teaching Environmental Biology and Genetics, for York College, in the CUNY
system, as an adjunct. I remember fondly Dr. Waldbauer, Dr. Fitz and the rest of
the wonderful biology staff.

Biography: After graduation I worked as a
dishwasher/bartender/cook's helper at the Hollywood Restaurant in Cortland for
about 6 months! I then moved back home to NYC and started my Biology career as a
microbiology lab technologist at the New York Hospital-Cornell Medical Center.
After 5 years(1986), I applied and was accepted to the Cornell University
Medical College Surgeon Assistant Program. I then worked in Durham, NC as a
surgical PA and helped initiate an open heart surgery program at Durham County
Hospital. In 1991, the north called me back and I secured a position in the Dept
of Surgery at Maine Medical Center in Portland, Maine. Two years ago, I switched
positions and now work as a Physician Assistant in Interventional Radiology.

Biography: I've just completed all the requirements for my Doctorate in
Microbiology from Rutgers University. I will graduate May 2005.
Since I graduated from Cortland I have been working as a
microbiologist in the pharmaceutical industry (although I started out by making
bubble gum for 2.5 years). Many thanks to Dr. Batzing for laying down the
foundation for my microbiology career.
Life has been good. I'll always remember Cortland fondly.

Occupation: Asst. Professor of STS and of Earth and
Environment
Biography: MS in microbiology from SUNY ESF in 1983, then
I taught high school biology, chemistry, nuclear issues, etc. for ten years
before returning to grad school in history of science. I finished my PhD in that
subject at Princeton in 1997 and have since been teaching history of science,
environmental history, and history of medicine. Books: Sparks of Life (Harvard,
2000); The Living Universe: NASA and the Development of Astrobiology (Rutgers,
2004); more underway. Many thanks to Dr. Gus for inspiring me about birds, Hawk
Mt., environmental activism; to Chuck Wilson and Gene Waldbauer for a love and
respect for natural history; etc etc etc. I remember Bowers Hall very fondly,
two kids and all these years later.

(Eric and I remain close)and I'm still swimming! Since my time at Cortland, I've
worked in many different fields--entomology, dermatology, oncology, immunology
and enzymology. I'm about to do a full circle and get back into entomology! I
love seeing all your names and glad that you memories are as fond as mine.

Biography: I lived in Albany and then Syracuse after
graduation trying to secure a job in any kind of lab. Ended up in banking,
investments, and trust portfolio management. I got married and then quit work
after our first child was born. We moved from Syracuse to Salt Lake City to the
DC area. I took a job at The Institute for Genomic Research in Rockville in
2005. I may not be a scientist, but I support an amazing group of researchers.
TIGR merged with the J Craig Venter Institute, so I now work for JCVI. We have
three great kids and a dog, and I can occasionally be of some help to my
children as they take biology and chemistry.

Biography: Went to medical school in Syracuse. Finished that and trained as a pediatrician at Children's National Medical Center, Washington DC. Pursued further
subspecialty training as a Pediatric Cardiologist at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. Also received a Master's Degree in
Clinical Research Design and Statistical Analyses in the School of Public Health. Following that I received subspecialty training
in Pediatric Critical Care Medicine at The Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions, Baltimore, MD. I then took my first job as
Director of the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at Children's Hospital Los Angeles. Two years ago I arrived at the University of
North Carolina, Chapel Hill as Chief, Pediatric Critical Care Medicine. I have been pursing a
research career and am presently funded by the NIH for my project "Ultrasound evaluation of Diaphragm function in
children". Married, (Dr. Edith (Bernosky) Kocis, MPH, MD with two kids (Kyra and Connor) one dog (Poikilo) and one cat (Clifford).
