New York Chiropractic College

The following is a "sample" program of study that you might follow at SUNY Cortland for the "3+1" transfer program with New York Chiropractic College. This "sample" is designed to complete all prerequisites in three years at SUNY Cortland. Students complete a final year at New York Chiropractic College and earn their B.S. degree from SUNY Cortland. Other students may simply incorporate these prerequisites into a typical four year baccalaureate degree program with a major in the Biological Sciences, and subsequently apply other schools offering Chiropractic programs.

SUNY Cortland - New York Chiropractic College (NYCC) "3+1" program

  1. Minimum of three years at SUNY Cortland in Biology with successful completion of all admission requirements with a cumulative average of 3.10, and a minimum of "C" (2.0) in all specified science courses (biology, chemistry and physics).
  2. NYCC shall accept all students who earn a GPA of 3.10 or above for the entrance date of their choice. Students who earn less than a 3.10 GPA, but at least a 2.25 GPA will receive priority consideration in the selection process.

  3. Students must send "letter of intent" and desired date of admission to NYCC no later than the end of their first year at SUNY Cortland. Students will apply to NYCC one year prior to their desired term of entry.
  4. Students who successfully complete all courses during the first three trimesters at NYCC with a 2.0 GPA will be eligible to receive the B.S. degree from SUNY Cortland.

Other Chiropractic programs:

Other Chiropractic programs may have different although similar prerequisite course requirements. You will take these "prerequisites" as a part of your general education courses and/or free electives, which might include literature, technical writing, public speaking, philosophy and medical ethics. Many students choose to major in the Biological Sciences where many of the Chiropractic prerequisites are already a part of this science program (see attached "four year sample" program). The Physical Education Department at Cortland offers a minor in Athletic Training; some students take this minor and later enter a Chiropractic program. The PE department offers several very relevant courses that you could take as an "elective"; for example, Biomechanics and Exercise Physiology. You might even choose to major in PE and simply incorporate the needed prerequisites for a Chiropractic program into this undergraduate degree. Therefore, you have flexibility in developing your educational background, while meeting the requirements for further study in the Chiropractic field.
