Academic Programs

Within the Cortland Biology Program students may choose among four separate majors.  Two of these are new and are the first of their kind in SUNY.   In addition, there are several concentrations within the Biological Sciences Major if students wish to focus their curriculum. Finally, the department offers some special programs specifically designed to allow students to move easily into advanced training in a variety of areas.

Students should familiarize themselves with these programs during their freshman year, but it is not necessary to immediately decide which one to pursue. The freshman year is a time to learn about the different areas within biology and students discuss their special interests with their advisor and other faculty. Then a plan of study may be chosen that will coincide with each student's interests and will advance them toward their career goals.
