R. Bruce Mattingly attended the University of Louisville, where he received a B.S. in applied science in 1980 and a Master of Engineering degree in 1982. He completed his Ph.D. in applied mathematics at North Carolina State University in 1988. He taught for 11 years at Youngstown State University, where he also served for four years as Assistant to the Dean in the College of Arts & Sciences. In 1999, he joined the Mathematics Department at SUNY Cortland. He chaired that department from 1999 to 2008, when he was appointed Interim Dean of the School of Arts and Sciences. His research interests include Markov chains, matrix theory and scientific computing.

Jerome  O'Callaghan received his B. Civil Law from University College Dublin (Ireland) in 1978, and a Ph.D. in Political Science from Syracuse University in 1988. He joined the Political Science Department having taught for 6 years at Texas Tech University. He chaired the Political Science Department from 1997 until his appointment as Associate Dean in 2005. He headed the College's Title III grant from 2003 to 2005. He publishes in the area of free speech law.
