Alumni House General FAQs

Where is the SUNY Cortland Alumni House located?
The Alumni House is located off campus at 29 Tompkins St., Cortland, NY, across the street from the YMCA.

Who can use the Alumni House?
The facility is available for use and rental by the general public, as well as alumni and those individuals and organizations who have an official affiliation with SUNY Cortland. This includes the SUNY Cortland community of alumni, faculty and staff, students, parents, retirees, Board of Trustees, College Council, College Foundation and departments of the College.

What are some of the features of this facility?

Where do I park?
There is limited parking at the rear of the Alumni House. Visitors may also park along Tompkins Street. For large events, additional parking may be pre-arranged at a SUNY Cortland parking lot incorporating shuttle bus service.

What are the operational hours of the Alumni House?
The building is open and operated from 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. five days a week during the academic year. Hours may vary in the summer. For events that run past the normal building closing time, an event manager is on duty.

The Alumni Affairs Office business hours are 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

The Alumni House is a smoke-free environment, except where designated. Pets, except those assisting the physically impaired, are not allowed in the building or on the grounds.

What spaces are available for rent inside the Alumni House?
The solarium, pub, dining room, library and/or the entire facility can be rented. Visit the Facility Rental and Lodging pages for rental information.

Who can rent rooms in the Alumni House?
The facility is available for use and rental by anyone who would like to enjoy the delightful ambience of a bygone era. This includes the SUNY Cortland community of alumni, faculty and staff, students, parents, retirees, Board of Trustees, College Council, College Foundation, college departments and the public.

What does it cost to rent rooms in the Alumni House?

What do I need to know if I choose to host an event at the Alumni House?

Does the Alumni House have an alcohol license?
No. An approved caterer must provide the license.


Overnight Guest Room FAQs

How do I make reservations for the overnight guest rooms?
You have a few options available to you. You can begin the reservation process by:

  1. Filling out and submitting the Reservation Inquiry Form,
  2. Calling the house directly at (607) 753-1561, or
  3. Sending an e-mail to AlumniHouse@cortland.edu.

Reservations for overnight rooms may be made up to one year in advance and must be held with a major credit card such as VISA or MasterCard. The College may block out time for events such as Reunion Weekend.

What do the overnight guest rooms include and who can use them?
The Alumni House has six overnight guest rooms that are available weekdays and weekends. They are offered in a bed-and-breakfast style with continental fare from 8 a.m.-10 a.m. A lodging capacity is set at ten.

The guest rooms are available to guests of the College, including faculty, staff, retirees, alumni, students and their families and the public. Visitors to the College, such as potential students and their families and special event guests, are also welcome.

What is the cost of an overnight guest room?
Overnight rooms rent for $100 - $150 per night. The occupancy tax of five percent is charged on overnight bookings, in addition to the eight percent sales tax.

When can I check into my room?
General check-in for overnight guest rooms is after 3 p.m., unless by pre-arrangement with the house manager. Cancellation of an overnight room is required two weeks in advance or a charge will be entered on the credit card for the balance due on the reservation; no refunds for peak weekends.

Are there any other amenities available with the overnight guest rooms?
All rooms are equipped with cable television, wireless internet service, an alarm clock, air conditioning and bathroom amenities. An iron and ironing board are available on request.
