Pre-major learning communities are a set of programs designed to help pre-major students explore the link between their interests and experiences and academic opportunities at SUNY Cortland.
Learning communities lead to greater student satisfaction and success in the first year of college by helping students connect with faculty, learn about the campus, and collaborate with other students.
A learning community is a group of students and faculty involved with a set of two to five content courses that address common themes. Students enjoy being able to take classes with the same group of students and with highly motivated faculty.
Pre-Majors select a learning community in their first semester. The fall 2008 learning communities for Pre-Majors include:
American History and Music
Backgrounds in Art
Earth and Sky
Forming History
Health and Wellness
Human Communication
Our Storied Land
Outdoor Adventure and Recreation
Play Across Cultures
Social Issues in Sport
Sociology
Tech First! Planet Earth
World First
