Advisement and Transition
Advisement and Transition provides services and support to students regarding transition to college, academic planning, major choice, and academic decision making. Our role is to help students make the most of their college career by providing assistance with choosing a major, understanding SUNY Cortland policies and procedures, understanding advisement and registration, degree planning and connecting to campus resources. Advisement and Transition supports students during their transition to college and throughout their academic progression to degree completion.
Our services include: academic advising, pre-major support, learning community support, transfer credit evaluation, permission to transfer credit process, new student orientation, first-year seminar, early alert outreach, and student support programming for transfer, non-traditional and graduate students.

Open Advising for Registration
Advisors in Advisement and Transition are available without an appointment for brief questions during the registration period to assist you. Open advising continues on Wednesdays throughout the semester 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., in-person in Memorial Library, Room A-111.
- You can also connect with a Transfer Network Team member during their peer chat hours either in Memorial Library or the Moffett Center Cafe. They are fellow students who are here to help!
- Students interested in meeting with a staff advisor virtually should call the office (607-753-4726) to schedule a virtual appointment in our Advisement Webex room.
Our brief advising videos provide overviews on the registration process and the online tools (Degree Works, Schedule Builder, myRedDragon resources).
