| Study Abroad in France:
Summer and Semester programs in La Rochelle |
SUNY Cortland students can study at the Université
de La Rochelle during the summer (July or August language classes for
6 credits) or during the school year (a mix of French as a Foreign
Language and regular French university classes).
| Classes are held at the FLASH (Faculté des Lettres, Arts et Sciences
Humaines) where students in the semester program can take French university
classes in subjects such as French literature, history, economics, other
languages, even classroom observation in local schools for education majors.
Students can receive a certificate and grades are adjusted by Cortland
to correspond to American university levels. The program includes two week intensive French language sessions (15 hrs/week) in Sept., Jan., Feb., and April plus 6 hours/week of supplementary language instruction during the rest of the semester in addition to university classes. Students also receive personal individualized tutoring (2 hrs. / week) |

| This modern facility on the ocean in downtown La Rochelle provides multimedia labs, médiathèque, and Internet access. Students from all over the world work together with caring instructors to build their language success. (see the summer 1999 group photo album) | ![]() |
| Planned excursions introduce students to the culture typical of the area such as regional chateaux, the distilleries at Cognac, the islands Oléron, Aix or Ré, the extensive romanesque architecture of the area, and, of course, the rich history of La Rochelle, the principal protestant city of renaissance France. | ![]() |
